How do you bring a dying plant back to life?

The image of a dying plant is quickly burned into our retinas: leaves hang limp, get brown edges, then turn completely brown and finally tumble elegantly to the ground. All that remains is a limp stem as bare as a billiard ball. When you witness mass plant death in your home, it can be quite traumatic. Of course, you want to know why your housemates just throw in the towel. Are you someone whose cactus or succulent dies after a few weeks? Then it's time for introspection. We have listed a few common causes of plant death for you and explain whether and how your plant can still be saved.

1. Repot your plant

Moving a sad hanging plant to another pot can make a big difference. Choose a pot that is larger than the old one so that the roots can grow and bloom better.

2. Feed the plants well

Plants also need healthy food. Replace the old potting soil with better quality soil. Feed your plant as often as indicated on the packaging, it will appreciate it and will therefore stay beautiful longer.

3. Give it some sun

A little bit of sun is good. But importantly: too much sun is not good at all. That does not improve a plan that does not look so good at all. It can help to put it in direct sunlight for a while, but take it out again immediately when the plant starts to look better.

4. Do not give too much water

This is also the biggest problem. Many people do not know when plants do not need water and keep watering them. By finding out when the time is that the plant does not need water, it will live longer and you will not drown it with water.

5. Remove pests

Do your plant’s leaves look dirty or weak? Pests could be the cause. Gently wipe them off the leaves or spray them with a mixture of soap and water.

6. Buy a greenhouse

Some plants need a more humid environment than the house. You can easily make a small greenhouse by placing a plastic bag over the pot. Leave the bag on for four to five days until the plant is healthy again.
